Head north from Windhoek, making a stop in Okahandja to explore the woodcarving market and stock up on fuel, biltong, and snacks for your journey. Continuing along the road, you'll come across the striking Omatakos, two conical mountains that rise from the surrounding landscape, serving as distinctive landmarks. Take a leisurely break for lunch in either Otjiwarongo or Outjo before arriving at your welcoming and laid-back accommodation for the next two days, the Etosha Safari Camp.

One of the highlights of your stay at this camp is the Shebeen restaurant, designed to resemble the informal township bars of the past, where people would gather to socialize, enjoy a drink, and listen to music. This vibrant and unconventional restaurant has become a must-visit destination on travelers' itineraries. Delight in a delectable dinner feast outdoors while you listen to the Etosha Boys strum their guitars and serenade you with local melodies.

Nestled on the fringes of Etosha National Park, Etosha Safari Camp provides an ideal starting point for your exploration of this world-famous wildlife haven. You have the choice of taking a leisurely midday break in your chalet or by the pool, rather than rushing to your next destination. Seize the chance to explore the waterholes near Okaukuejo at your own pace, where you'll encounter a diverse array of both large and small animal visitors. Following a rewarding day of wildlife observation, return to the welcoming and hospitable embrace of Etosha Safari Camp.

On the third day of your safari, you'll immerse yourself in a wildlife celebration as you journey through Etosha National Park. You'll explore the waterholes located further to the east and depart the park in the late afternoon through Etosha's northernmost King Nehale Gate. In close proximity to the gate, on the Andoni Plains that border the park, you'll arrive at Etosha King Nehale, your lodging for the night. Here, you can relish the evening in the luxurious and tastefully decorated lodge, featuring a blend of both regal and African influences, culminating your Etosha adventure on a high and memorable note.

Following a restful night's sleep and an introduction to the vibrant culture of the Owambo regions, head north by taking the M121 turnoff just before Ondangwa. As you continue your journey, follow the B10 to the east along a picturesque tree-lined road that leads you to the glistening Okavango River. About ten kilometers prior to reaching the intersection with the B8, on the outskirts of Rundu, you'll come across the access road to Hakusembe River Lodge. This tranquil oasis is situated right on the riverbanks, offering a serene atmosphere. You can unwind in the peaceful surroundings by embarking on an afternoon boat cruise or by raising your glasses on the wooden deck as you watch the ruby sun gracefully descend below the horizon.

Today's journey takes you eastward, leading you to the verdant and lush northeastern corner of Namibia. Formerly known as the Caprivi Strip but now renamed as the Zambezi Region, this area is characterized by its abundant foliage and is crisscrossed by meandering waterways. It is not only a habitat for a diverse range of wildlife and birds but is also home to a captivating group of people.

Bwabwata National Park extends from the Okavango River to the Kwando River, and it uniquely accommodates both human settlements and wildlife, coexisting harmoniously. As you traverse through these communities, be sure to slow down and keep a vigilant eye out for magnificent elephants and the elusive wild dogs.

Upon reaching Kongola, make a right turn onto the C49, leading you to Namushasha River Lodge. This lodge exudes the authentic character of the Zambezi Region, nestled on the riverbank among the lush trees. It resonates with the lively sounds of hippos and the melodious chorus of birds, creating a true wonderland within this region. It's the perfect haven for fully immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the area.

Today, you have the chance to immerse yourself in the wealth of experiences that the river has to offer. Embark on a leisurely boat excursion along the Kwando River and bask in the enchantment of this aquatic Eden. Keep your eyes peeled for the numerous bird species, crocodiles basking in the sun on the riverbanks, and the pods of hippos gracefully gliding through the water lilies.

A standout feature of your stay is the guided journey into Bwabwata National Park, commencing with a boat cruise on the Kwando River. Further downstream, you'll disembark onto the riverbank, where a safari vehicle awaits to take you on an adventure into the heart of the national park. This includes a drive to the renowned elephant-viewing site at Horseshoe, an oxbow lake surrounded by Zambezi teak woodland. As the afternoon unfolds, you'll savor refreshing drinks and snacks before returning to the riverbank to board the boat just as the sun begins its descent.

For those with 4x4 driving skills, you may consider a visit to the nearby Mudumu National Park, an excellent destination for a morning or afternoon expedition or even a full-day trip with a picnic lunch. Alternatively, you can continue your journey to Nkasa Rupara National Park, which is a bit further away. Dedicate an entire day to explore this park, known for its abundant water features. Along the way, you can make a stop at the small Livingstone Museum (please call ahead to arrange a suitable time). Please exercise caution in muddy conditions and ensure you have 4x4 expertise.

If you're interested in shopping for local crafts, don't miss Mashi Crafts, a treasure trove of handmade goods situated across from the Kongola fuel station, well worth a visit. For a glimpse into local culture, consider a visit to the Namushasha Heritage Centre, located a short distance from the lodge, where you can learn about the fascinating culture of the Eastern Zambezi region. Additionally, the Living Museum of the Mafwe, accessible from Kongola, offers another opportunity to gain insights into the local traditions and way of life.

On the seventh day of your journey, you'll head to the Chobe River, where Chobe River Camp awaits on the riverbanks, offering breathtaking views of the floodplains. Starting from Namushasha River Lodge, travel eastward along the C49 towards Katima Mulilo. The road will take you through the Mdumu and Nkasa Rupara national parks, and it's not uncommon to spot wildlife along the roadside. Keep a keen eye out for herds of elephants crossing the road and, further along, you'll encounter the domestic animals of the local settlements.

Once in Katima, follow the B8 road southwards to reach the Ngoma border post, serving as the gateway between Namibia and Botswana. The turnoff to Chobe River Camp can be found 4 kilometers before Ngoma. This camp is situated opposite Chobe National Park.

During the high-water season in the middle of the year, the camp's boat trip stands as one of the finest excursions in the country. It offers a remarkable opportunity to observe buffalo, elephants, water-adapted antelope, and a diverse array of birdlife from the comfort of the boat. In drier seasons, a guided nature drive along the river course provides an excellent opportunity for game viewing. You can choose to join one of these excursions or spend a leisurely afternoon at the camp. For dinner, dine al fresco in the Lapa area under the stars, surrounded by the soothing sounds of birdsong, and bask in the serene beauty of this wonderfully simple African camp.

A brief journey to the north of Chobe River Camp will lead you to the intersection with the D3508 road, guiding you to the Zambezi Mubala Lodge nestled along the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. This lodge is situated approximately 40 kilometers east of Katima Mulilo. Access to this charming lodge by the riverbank is exclusively possible via a boat trip departing from Zambezi Mubala Camp.

The term "Mubala" originates from the local Silozi language and translates to "colour," symbolizing the harmonious and vivid colors of nature mirrored in the waters of the Zambezi. Take pleasure in a picturesque sundowner cruise after a relaxing afternoon by the pool. Delight in an outdoor dining experience and relish the serenity and tranquility that Mubala Lodge has to offer.

The Zambezi River is renowned for its diverse array of activities, including fishing, bird-watching, boating, and photography. You might find it tempting to unwind on your balcony with a view of the river. However, for those with a more active spirit, consider taking a stroll to the carmine bee-eater colony (best between mid-August and December), testing your luck with some tigerfish fishing (with catch and release practices), or embarking on a river excursion.

Zambezi Mubala Lodge is a paradise for nature enthusiasts, as it is home to a wide range of bird species. As the day draws to a close, make sure to relish the vibrant hues of the sunset and the serene ambiance of the river's surroundings.

Katima Mulilo serves as a convenient location for refueling and stocking up on essential supplies before you continue your journey along the B8 towards Kongola and the C49. Your lodging for the night is Namushasha River Lodge as you start retracing your path. Returning to the lodge brings a warm welcome and the opportunity to once again immerse yourself in the beauty of the lodge and the enchanting Kwando River.

Bid your goodbyes to the Zambezi Region as you journey westward towards the Kavango Region, where you'll spend your last night at Hakusembe River Lodge. Revel in a tranquil evening and savor a delightful dinner on the deck with a view of the river, followed by a peaceful night's rest accompanied by the soothing lullabies of the river.

Start your day early for the return journey to Windhoek, which typically takes eight hours. You can request breakfast packs for your journey. It is advisable to spend the night in Windhoek to allow ample time to catch your onward flight the following day. With an entire day at your disposal, you can leisurely make your way back to the capital city, reflecting on your exceptional and enriching wildlife adventure.
