Embark on a Chiefs Island Day Trip in Botswana on a boat tour Spot local wildlife and admire the savanna landscapes National park fees and a picnic lunch are included Hotel pickup and drop-off in Maun included
We will set off for our safari experience on-board a 12 seater motor boat for a full day of viewing game and an abundance of bird species along Botswana’s most breath-taking scenery along the Okavango Channels. Your guide will share with you stories about the Chief’s Island including its history and its critical role in this part of the ecosystem.
Chiefs Island is the most exciting concession and the largest land mass in the Okavango delta, stretching from the southern Okavango to the permanent water near Mombo.
It is an extension of the mainland and, because it is slightly higher than the general level of the delta, it never floods. Chiefs Island is home to a vast number of animals and birds who benefit from the Kalahari sandveld habitat with close proximity to water.
This is where the large resident Buffalo herds of the Okavango delta are often to be found, as they prefer to drink from the rain -filled pans and give preference to the sparsely growing but sweeter grasses of the sandy areas, rather than the coarser grasses with a lower protein yield of the floodplains.
Chiefs Island Day TripDeparting from Maun, this trip heads north for approximately 45 minutes by boat to the Boro village. Once past the village you enter Game viewing mode for the rest of your journey. Depending on where our campsite is situated, and what game sightings you experience along the way, this trip should take approximately 3-5hours with a packed breakfast and lunch on route. On arrival at your campsite the activities will include setting up camp and preparing for the night, with a late afternoon/sunset cruise returning to camp in time to prepare the evening meal and sit around the fire appreciating your surroundings. The following morning after breakfast is the return journey to Island Safari Lodge, which is pretty much a reversal of your previous day’s activities
