6 Days On Mount Kilimanjaro Through Marangu Route

Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro through the Marangu route sometimes called the Coca-Cola Route because it is relatively easy. It is referred to as the tourist route due to the services available on the way to the summit.

Unlike other routes, it is relatively easy, has low success rate because many unfit people attempt Kili trek via this route and fail, it is a popular route and accommodation is in huts. Many trekkers prefer it. It is also beautiful, the easiest and shortest route. Ascent and descent are done on the same path.

DAY 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport;

  • Picked up with our driver and then transferred to Springlands hotel or similar hotel in Moshi for overnight and morning breakfast.

DAY 2: Marangu Gate (1980m) – Mandara Hut (2700m)

  • After breakfast Guests are picked from Springlands hotel and drive to Marangu gate then hike to Mandara Hut.

DAY 3: Mandara Hut (2700m) – Horombo Hut (3720m)

  • Mandara Huts (2,740 m/9,000 ft) to Horombo Huts (3,690 m/12,100 ft) 11 km, 6-8 hours Heath land

DAY 4: Horombo Hut (3720m) –Acclimatization day on the mountain.

  • At Horombo Hut, you will spend the day allowing your body to acclimate to high altitude.
  • You will have the option of doing a day hike to Mawenzi Hut (4600m) for further acclimatization with your guide.
  • Breakfast and dinner will be at the hut and lunch will either be packed or at the hut depending on your preference for the day.

DAY 5: Horombo Huts (3,690 m/12,100 ft) to Kibo Huts (4,695 m/15,400 ft) 10 km, 6-8 hours Alpine Desert

  • Following an early morning breakfast, you will continue your ascent into the alpine desert habitat. Hikers have the option of 2 trails that lead to Kibo Hut (4700m).
  • The upper route (located to the right of the fork) is the same trail used the previous day for the day hike to Mawenzi Hut.
  • The lower route (located to the left of the fork) is the more popular route because it is a shorter hiking distance (1 hour shorter).
  • Kibo Hut is located in the “Saddle,” which refers to the area located between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo in an alpine desert.
  • There is no water at this camp, but hikers can buy mineral water and soft drinks at the camp office.
  • An early dinner will be served so hikers can rest before attempting the summit the same night.
  • Your guide will brief you in detail on how to prepare for summit night.

DAY 6: Summit Day!

  • Kibo Huts4,695 m/15,400 ft)to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m/19,340 ft)to Horombo Huts (3,690 m/12,100 ft)4 km up, 14 km down10-15 hours Alpine Desert.

DAY 7: Horombo Hut (3720m) – Marangu Gate (1980m)

  • Horombo Huts (3,690 m/12,100 ft) to Marangu Gate (1,830 m/6,000 ft) to Moshi (890 m/2,920 ft) 18 km, 5-7 hours: at Springlands hotel for overnight; bed and breakfast.

Day 8: Transfer to the airport for the flight back home. End of the tour.
